LOOK AWAY OR SAVE THE DAY: Responsibly Covering Genocide in an Age of Hyperrealism
Alarmed by rising tensions in Darfur, US civil society united to create the Save Darfur Coalition, and designed a multi-million dollar media intervention strategy intended to raise awareness about Darfur. What was the message? This talk will look at the strategies of the Save Darfur media intervention and investigate how marketing humanitarian tragedy can negatively affect broader objectives of peacebuilding.

38 OF 50 / CAPITOL EMBROIDERY artist nonviolent action that took place from 2000-2004 involving nonviolent actions at the 38 state Capitols concerning capital punishment in the USA. The action included a three-day performance, embroidering each state flag to raise awareness and engage the public in dialogue about the issue.

WOMEN´S VIOLENT DEATH IN THE NORTH BORDER OF MEXICO: THE PARTICULAR SCENARIO OF BAJA CALIFORNIA UNDERSTANDING ITS ORIGINS TO CREATE A NON-VIOLENT SOCIETY an attempt to understand and provide solutions for this social problem. The presentation will interpret data from the project "Social characterization of violent deaths in the North border of Mexico: The particular case of Baja California 1999-2005" a study elaborated by the Social Research Institute of the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, based on the analysis of the death certificates of the Forensic Medical Services of Baja California 1999-2005, to prove the levels of violence registered towards the female population.
